Project.
MindFit: Bowling, Golf, and Shooting for Mental Wellbeing.
This project is a youth-led sports and well-being initiative based in Germany, designed to address the physical inactivity, stress, and social isolation experienced by young people in the post-COVID era; rooted in the personal experiences of its organizers ,who struggled with burnout, long working hours, and mental fatigue. The project uses sport as a tool to rebuild healthy routines and meaningful human connections. It was implemented under the framework of the European Solidarity Corps.
Core Idea
Many young people in Germany, particularly international students and refugees, face sedentary lifestyles and limited access to structured, inclusive recreational activities. MindFit responds to this by introducing four under-practiced sports - bowling, snooker, golf, and shooting - as accessible, focus-driven pathways to improve mental well-being, build community, and reconnect young people with active, purposeful living.
Objective - 1: Raise awareness about declining sports Revive- interest in bowling, snooker, golf, and shooting - sports with cultural and historical significance that are gradually losing popularity in Germany - by demonstrating their physical, mental, and social value to young participants and local communities.
Objective - 2: Promote mental health through active participation - Use focus-intensive, discipline-based sports to help participants reduce stress, improve concentration, develop emotional resilience, and build practical tools for managing the pressures of modern student and professional life.
Objective - 3: Build strong community bonds and social cohesion - Create an inclusive, intercultural environment where young people from diverse backgrounds can connect, form friendships, and develop a lasting support network, both in person and through digital platforms.
Objective - 4: Strengthen partnerships with local sports clubs - Collaborate with professional clubs to deliver high-quality coaching and create sustainable pathways for participants to continue engaging with sport beyond the project.
Objective - 5: Promote outdoor activity and environmental responsibility -Encourage participants to spend time outdoors, use public transport for all project-related travel, avoid printed materials, and adopt eco-friendly habits , contributing to both personal well-being and a healthier environment.
Objective - 6: Create a culturally enriching experience - Expose participants to sports embedded in German cultural heritage, broadening their cultural understanding, fostering mutual respect, and strengthening their sense of belonging within the local community.
